Frequently Asked Questions
What is Econ 110 equivalent
to in terms of transfer credit?
Econ 110 is equivalent to
both introductory
micro AND macro. Two classes are usually needed
to meet the BYU Econ 110 requirement.
What is the minimum math needed
in order to take upper-division classes?
Math 112 or 119 with a B+ or better
Is there a suggested sequence
for some of my upper-division coursework?
Yes. Econ 378 must be taken before Econ
388, and Econ 380 must be taken before 382.
Can I substitute Math 119
for the Math 112 requirement?
Yes, with a grade of B+ or better. Your
advisor can code it in on your ABC Report if
you notify us. However, students are strongly encourage to take Math 112 as it provides a stronger preparation for major courses.
What's the difference between a BA and BS in Economics?
The BA requires that you take either 7 additional math credits beyond math 112 (excluding math 119), or satisfy the Languages of Learning GE requirement with a language.
Should I get a BA or BS?
In general more math classes or language skills can give you an edge depending on your post-graduate plans,
but the designation as a BA or BS recipient doesn't have much of a "real world" difference. If you don't know why you should get one over the other, neither do we.
