Advisement Center

First Year Experience

The Value of Academic Advisement

The Family, Home & Social Sciences College Advisement Center has a lot to offer to students in our college, especially to new students. At the heart of your advisement center experience is your academic advisor. Your advisor is a friend who can answer questions you may have about majors, planning your classes, post-graduation plans, or university life in general. If your advisor is not able to answer a question, he or she can connect you with the resources and people you need to find an answer.

If you feel like you already have a direction and a plan for your university experience, your advisor is a great sounding-board to help you consider all of your options and ensure that your plan is attainable. This will help you avoid unpleasant surprises, and overloading your academic life unnecessarily.

One quick meeting with an advisor can answer questions and clear up misconceptions that might hold you back and slow you down for the next four years. You've made a great choice in coming to BYU. Why not make a second one and get off to the best possible start? Follow the links to the right for more information about majors in the FHSS College and how you can make the most out of your experience at BYU.
