Upcoming Graduation Ceremonies
The most up to date information about graduation scheduling can be found
here.
Commencement Exercises
Commencement takes place prior to the convocation exercises. All graduates, regardless of their college, are invited to attend commencement. Commencement exercises include a processional (graduates in cap & gown march to the Marriott Center), before the commencement program begins. Graduates and others in attendance will hear from a prominent keynote speaker during these exercises. For example, the Vice President of the United States of America spoke at the April 2007 Commencement. Please see a sample program for commencement exercises to get a feel for what takes place at commencement
Convocation Exercises
Convocation exercises are divided into colleges and this is where student actually walk across the stage and receive a diploma cover (not the actual diploma, that will be mailed 6-8 weeks after the graduation date). Here is a
sample program for convocation exercises.
Because of the size of the The College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences, it is also divided into
several convocation programs:
- Family, Home, and Social Sciences (School of Family Life)
- These ceremonies include students from MFHD, HFL, and FCSE programs
- Family, Home, and Social Sciences (School of Social Work)
- These ceremonies include students from the department of social work. However, the social work department participates in the general FHSS ceremonies during August graduation. This is because the number of graduates tends to be lower in August.
- Family, Home, and Social Sciences
- This is the ceremony that all other students in the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences attend (ie: you go to this one if you are not in the Schools of Family Life or Social Work). For this ceremony, we have provided a Convocation Walkthrough presentation (PowerPoint). This will hopefully give you a good overview of what happens so you can concentrate on how awesome it is to graduate instead of trying to figure out what's going on.
