College of Family, Home and Social Sciences Advisement Center
Mission Statement
2007
The mission of the Family, Home and Social Sciences Advisement Center is to create a collaborative
partnership with BYU students wherein our office professionals seek to guide and empower students to
fulfill their educational objectives, clarify their academic and career goals, and achieve personal and
professional success in family and community
We strive to accomplish this mission daily in the following ways:
Guide:
We collaborate with students so that each has a personalized pathway to graduation. We also
teach students about graduation requirements, university policies and procedures, post-graduate
options, career and life goals, campus resources, and other tools that will assist them during their
pursuits in life and learning. Additionally, we encourage students to seek learning opportunities
outside the classroom including internships, assistantships, volunteer work, and other work
experience that will assist in opening future doors of opportunity for them.
Empower:
We empower students by teaching and encouraging them to explore their interests, abilities and
potential. We counsel them to research options both for their educational experience as well as for
their post-graduate pursuits, to set goals for their future, and to periodically reflect on their
progress. We empower students to assume responsibility for their academic and professional
successes and failures, and to actively pursue their goals. Empowered students take the initiative
to ensure their success.
Achieve:
Students who have been guided, instructed, and empowered through advising are students who
achieve success. Graduation is only one aspect of student success. Once students acquire the tools
and skills learned through their education, they will go forth from BYU to learn and serve their
families and communities and build on their foundation of achievements and successes throughout
their lives.
